    However, different operating systems and computers -- e.g.,
Windows, Linux/Unix, and Macintosh -- do NOT store "simple and plain
text files" in the same way, and this can cause problems.  The
difference is in what "invisible" character or characters is/are at
the end of a line to signal to the operating system that the end of
a line has been reached.  All three of those operating systems do it
differently, so a "text" file means three different things.  There are
utilities to convert among the three formats, but one has to have the
utilities to do so.
