Based on my own experience with another auxiliary language, I might
respectfully suggest starting on a small piece of literature rather
than something as major as a large popular novel.  Some short stories,
perhaps.  I once translated a short work of J.R.R. Tolkien as a start.
Translation is a major undertaking if it is to be done well,
particularly for beginnners.  In order not to leave a bad impression
of the IAL itself, a translation should be a good product if you intend
it for public consumption.  (Hope I'm not raining on your parade or
damping your enthusiasm.)
